Lance Tolbert Biography

Lance Tolbert is a Grammy-nominated songwriter, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist residing in Los Angeles, CA. He holds a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies from the Indiana University School of Music. He constantly tours the world with some of the most elite artists in the music industry. He is the bassist for superstar Mariah Carey and the keyboardist for will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. In 2015, Tolbert earned his first Grammy nod as a songwriter for composing several songs on Charlie Wilson’s “Forever Charlie” album (RCA Records). The album was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. Tolbert‘s songwriting discography also includes Britney Spears, Estelle, Kenny Lattimore, and a #1 hit for Johnny Gill & New Edition called “This One’s For Me and You”. His songs have been featured in major motion pictures such as “The Best Man Holiday” and have been in constant rotation on the radio for years. Another dream manifested in his career when Tolbert produced the music for a global ad campaign for the Wall Street Journal featuring will.i.am. As a composer, Tolbert has written orchestrations for pop stars Meghan Trainor, Mary J. Blige, and many others. Despite his demanding schedule, Tolbert looks forward to returning to his hometown of Fort Wayne, IN every year to serve as band director and audio mixing engineer for Unity Performing Arts Foundation. Lance Tolbert has established himself as a versatile and reputable professional in the music industry.
